Friends FurEver ~ Weekly Featured Blogger

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
Today we get to feature of the clan from Friends FurEver.

We are 3 kitties and 2 woofies who live in Florida with our Mom and Dad. We blog daily and sometimes our Cousin Trooper, who lives with Auntie El, and our Rainbow Bridge sisfur Angel Sniffie blog with us. We moved to Florida in 1999 when our Mom met our Dad.

Our blog is called Friends FurEver because it is named after Mom and Auntie El’s business Friends FurEver.  Mom and Auntie El used to travel all over the country selling clothing, accessories and ceramics with cats on them at Cat Shows.

Mom met a Birman breeder at one of the shows and she had a “special needs” kitty who came to live with us. That kitty was Angel Sniffie.

Ellie and Allie followed a few years later. All three of the girlz are Lilac Point Birmans and Ellie has even been in cat shows!! She’s a Premier in CFA. Ellie and Allie are sisters and do all of the things sisters do! One minute they’re loving on each other and the next minute they’re having a smackdown. It’s all in good fun and they love each other.

Ellie is Daddy’s special little girl and she has him totally wrapped around her paw.

Allie loves everyone! Allie can sleep anywhere – boxes, bowls, on top of messy desks!!

Tamir is our ManCat! He came from a rescue in New Jersey. He’s a red tabby and a proud member of The Tabby Cat Club and the Gorgeous Gingers.

He’s a big guy and has a powerful purr machine. Ellie and Allie both love him (who wouldn’t?) and they both like to snooze with him and sometimes help groom him. As a gentle ManCat, he puts up with it! Tamir really loves his Mom!!

Our woofies are Cubby and Clifford. They are Pomeranians and are littermates. Cubby and Clifford are 12 years old and came to us when they were 5 and were going to be sent to the pound. They love each other and are always together. When they sleep they even have to be touching!! They’ve learned that we cats pretty much run the house and control the humans as well as the woofies!

Here are three of their favorite posts:

Keeping Up With Cockapoos ~ New Blogger Alert

Posted on 08:28 by Unknown

Today we get to introduce you to Rosy & Shorty from Keeping Up With Cockapoos.

Rosy and Shortcake (a.k.a. Shorty) are two well-loved cockapoos. They're spoiled rotten. Rosy is a golden F1 cockapoo. She's a little older than eight years old. She's a great watchdog and a real sweetheart. Even though she barks at them, Rosy welcomes strangers gladly. She's very smart, but not very patient! Shorty is also an F1 cockapoo, but she's black and only about eight weeks old! Shorty loves other dogs and strangers. She isn't very loud, unlike Rosy, and she's a lot more submissive. However, like Rosy, she's an Einstein with fur and has a warm heart.

Rosy is a great dog who knows lots of tricks. She has some back problems, so she didn't end up doing agility. However, she knows a lot of tricks (including my all-time favorite, "peekaboo") and some pre-agility skills that won't hurt her back. Shorty will most likely learn the same tricks when she gets older, and maybe some agility.

Rosy was born in a puppy mill. We adopted her when she was only eight weeks, and she had severe social problems with other dogs. Now, with the right training, she's still a little hyper, but loves to meet her four-legged friends. Her spine problems came from there too (though they've gotten less severe over the years). Shorty was born from a breeder, and she needs a lot less behavior training. She's sweet around other dogs with no problem whatsoever.

My family and I chose both dogs for the same reason: personality. Rosy was full of spunk and sass, and she was great with kids. Shorty was calm and quiet, a good match for an older dog. Rosy continues to act like an sixteen week old puppy.

Rosy was my first cockapoo. At the time of which I got her, I only lived in my household. No pets. I've been a dog lover ever since I could remember, so getting her was great excitement. When my family decided to get another dog, cockapoos came into mind. We found a great, qualified breeder who had been breeding dogs for 25 years and adopted Shorty.

Rosy is a lot like a poodle, smart and glamorous. She's willing to please. Shorty is more like a cocker spaniel. She's an awful watchdog because she loves everyone! She's very playful and sweet, and loves to cuddle more than anything!

I started to blog about these tiny rascals because I simply wanted to document my dogs' interesting adventures, and how they get into mischief, as well as provide a little bit of information on the breed (well, mixed breed).

These two cuties would love to have a visit from you today, so stop by Keeping Up With Cockapoos.

Betty The Bichon Featured Blogger

Posted on 08:27 by Unknown
Betty the Bichon, Life & Style of a Dog Lover.

Betty is my sweet baby girl who just recently turned 1. We live in Houston, Texas together. Since I love taking pictures of her, taking her with me everywhere and talking about her, I decided it was a good idea to start a blog about us. That way I could share my passion for my Bichon with other animal lovers.

Betty was a gift to me from my parents and she moved in with me my first week of law school. Law school colleagues thought I was nuts for getting a puppy at this particular time. However, she is the reason I’ve stayed sane during my stressful first year of school. I’m still in school and she is my number one study buddy.

Betty and I blog about our adventures together. I love to travel, especially around Texas, and typically Betty is with me. I also love decorating my apartment; Betty of course is in all the pictures and I take her into consideration in every design decision I make. One of my favorite blog topics is when Betty gets to go out on the town to a dog-friendly establishment. There are many dog-friendly places in Houston and we love to discover new ones.

Betty lives for play-dates with her four-legged friends. There are three Boykin Spaniels in particular that she enjoys romping with whenever she gets the chance. She loves her toys, her bones and her family.

Our blog is a light-hearted fun place for anybody to stop by and visit. We hope it brings a smile to your face like it does for us!

Here are 3 of our favorite blog posts:
1. Country Livin' Day 1
2. Professor, my dog ate my textbook
3. Chewy Vuiton

You can see what a cutie she is, so stop by & visit Betty today!

The Storm Defender Anxiety Reducing Cape Review

Posted on 09:01 by Unknown

The Storm Defender Cape is not like other products that look to swaddle dogs to relax them during storms.  The Storm Defender blocks the buildup of static electricity in the air keeping your dog calm as the storm approaches.

Oskar would often get antsy even before the onset of thunder and The Storm Defender allowed him to relax through electrical storms.  Here he is chilling in the "frat house" chair as a storm is rolling in.
After a few minutes, he simply moved to another comfy spot and went to sleep.
Oskar didn't mind the cape one bit.  We tried it through 4 electrical storms with similar results every time.  With The Storm Defender cape on he didn't even seem to be aware of the storms.  We give it two paws up!

My Dog Sheba's Life Story ~ New Blogger Alert

Posted on 07:42 by Unknown
Today we are pleased to introduce you to Sheba from My Dog Sheba's Life Story.

Hi my name is Ian.  I live in the United Kingdom with my partner Anne, our dog Sheba a 3 year old Dogue de Bordeaux X Rottweiler & our cat Cody a 1 year old Maine Coon cross. Sheba has gained her kennel club good citizen Bronze & Silver & is working towards her Gold. My hobbies are Football, Reading, Fishing, watching F1 Motor Racing & Animals.

Cody is an indoor cat. We lost one of our previous cats to a dog attack so decided to keep him in for his own safety. Which isn't to bad as his previous owners never let him out, i supose what you're not used to you don't miss.

I decided to do a Blog for Sheba, to look at the world through her eyes instead of from my point of view. And also so it's like a diary so when she's no longer with us i've got something to look back at & remember all the happy times.
Everybody over at My Dog Sheba's Life Story is very warm & kind, so pay them a visit today.

As always, if you'd like to have your pet blog featured on Pet Blogs United, drop us a line at PBU at comcast dot net.

Paws To Talk ~ Featured Blogger

Posted on 07:30 by Unknown
Today we are featuring Bella & DiDi from Paws To Talk:

About the blog:
Some people think dogs can’t understand what goes on in the world. Just because we are furry (most of us) and lack thumbs doesn’t mean that we are incapable of feeling all the same emotions humans do.
Our humans have always told us that a dog needs a job. After considering many careers (Bird watching, test-kitchen tasters, ball girls for the professional tennis tour) we have decided to dispense our wisdom to canines and anyone else who needs it (including cats).

We’re here to listen to everyone. Just howl or use our submission tab.
Woof,
Bella and DiDi

About Bella and DiDi

BELLA: I am a 10-year-old perfect specimen of black Standard Poodle. I enjoy playing catch, lovingly nibbling on my humans’ hands, Cedar-Plank Salmon and Champagne. Since I can remember, I have always been told that I am incredibly smart. My humans thought about sending me to law school but I begged them to let me dispense my endless knowledge to others instead.
Just don’t try to reach me after 9 pm because I like to get my beauty sleep.

More about Bella
Likes:
-Naps on my humans’ bed
-Being chased around the dinning room table with a toy in my mouth
-Adult dinner parties
-Nuzzling my nose in my humans’ lap
-Anything French
-Catching a ball perfectly between my beautiful teeth
-Fancy scarves and collars

Dislikes:
-Roughhousing
-Cheap Champagne
-Crying little humans
-Doing my business on sidewalks
-Disorganization
-Humans leaving my house

DIDI:
I am a 5-year-old black Standard Poodle or so they tell me. Personally, I think I am part Poodle and part 4-wheel-drive vehicle. I love nature, climbing stone walls, jumping fences, whole rotisserie chickens and light beer. Sometimes, my humans call me a clown because I collapse in all different positions looking for a cuddle.

I am a young dog so I stay up late. I love to howl at the moon so if you hear me howl back.

More about DiDi:
Likes:
-Digging holes in the yard
-Anything having to do with eating chicken
-Disrupting Bella’s peace and order
-Taking care of little humans
-Staying up all night watching my yard

Dislikes:
-Humans leaving my house
-When Bella hogs my favorite toy which is whatever toys she has in her mouth
-Going to school. I am yard smart!
-Being stuck in the house
-Fancy scarves and collars

Spotty Spotty Polkadotty ~ New Blogger Alert

Posted on 09:36 by Unknown

Today we are happy to introduce you to Stefanie & Blueberry from Spotty Spotty Polkadotty!

I started blogging just so I could share about my dog Blueberry and her various adventures. I adopted her at the end of December 2011. I had lost my previous cattle dog mix to cancer the year before, and during my grieving period, I fostered a couple of dogs with a local rescue until I was ready to adopt again. I knew I wanted another cattle dog and I searched Petfinder.com for months before I saw this dog with the unusual name "Blueberry". She and her 7 newborn puppies were rescued from the e-list at a local shelter and while I LOVE puppies - I knew I didn't have the time to raise one and she was just so beautiful to me, I knew she was the one I wanted to adopt. Since I brought her home, she has been so much fun - so sweet and loving and no issues despite being a rescue. I just want to share her story and her progress as I am hoping to have her certified as a therapy dog some time later this year.

I have followed a few blogs over the last year or so and just find the dog blog community to be warm and encouraging and would like to be a part of that. Plus, I think my non-dog loving friends are tired of hearing my stories and this is a place for me to blog about her and know that I'm sharing my stories with fellow dog lovers.
Stop by Spotty Spotty Polkadotty and give them a warm PBU welcome!

Labrador Retrievers: How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend ~ Book Review and Giveaway

Posted on 20:28 by Unknown
When I was asked to review and do a giveaway of the eBook Labrador Retrievers: How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend I knew I had to check it out.

My husband's heart dog was a black Lab named Buddy, who crossed the bridge a few years ago.  If you look up the words good and loyal in the dictionary, you would find Buddy's picture.

This is one in a series of books focusing on different breeds.  Besides Labs, they include, German Shepherds, Yorkshire Terriers, Golden Retrievers, and Doberman Pinschers.  You can purchase any of the books here.

This book is a fantastic resource.  Starting with the first chapter, which is a history and overview of the breed and including chapters on homecoming, choosing the right Lab and socializing, How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend hits all the right notes.

I talked to author Lorie Huston, DVM about why she decided to write Labrador Retrievers, "I was contacted by the publisher about writing the book.  They were looking to do a 101 series on some of the most popular dog breeds.  Since Labs are so popular, that's why we settled on them as the focus of the book."

Sprinkled throughout the book are "Tips From A Vet," along with excellent resource lists filled with useful information that you can use immediately.

Huston also says, "I hope people who read the book have a deeper understanding of the care necessary to keep their dog healthy and the responsibility and obligation that comes with taking a dog into your home."

I have an eBook copy for one Pet Blogs United reader, any of the 5 breeds that I mentioned above.  All you need to do is leave me a blog post comment telling me which breeds book you would like to receive if you win.  Giveaway ends 7/13/12 at midnight EST.

About the author:

Lorie Huston, DVM currently blogs at Pet Health Care Gazette.  She specializes in providing pet health care information to pet owners to assist them in making educated decisions about their pet's health. Her work has been published in many venues both online and in print.

Huston is a practicing veterinarian and works in a busy animal hospital in Rhode Island. She holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska.
