K9 Kamp Week 4 Kamper's Choice

This week for K9 Kamp it was Kamper's Choice. We stuck with Oskar's favorite, which is keep-away. Every day, at least twice a day we went out to the yard and played Chase Oskar.

The rules are:
Throw the ball once to Oskar.
Chase Oskar.

I know it's highly technical, but it works for us:)

My husband and I were both out chasing him last night & when one of us gets close, he just turns on a burst of speed that leaves us in his dust.  Oskar makes all kinds of barking & snorting sounds while he's running with the ball in his mouth, just to taunt us.

The added bonus to this game is that it makes Oskar so truly happy!  He thinks this is the most fun possible, so it makes it easier for me to do it seeing him so happy.

Once again this year K9 Kamp has been a blast.  I want to thank our hosts, Peggy & Jodi for putting together such a fun event!

K9-Kamp Week 3 ~ Minute To Win It

This week we had a Minute to Win it.  The human part of our team wasn't feeling too well this week, so we didn't get any pics & she was not as active as she could have been.
We did play many sessions with Blue, my favorite toy and since I don't like to bring back the ball we usually play chase instead of fetch.

Look at me, I'm pracitcally a blur!  Warpseed ahead!

I, Oskar got lots of great exercise this week with the nice medium temperatured weather.  Lots of people walking by my fence for me to bark at and chase along the length of my yard.  Lots of squirrels to chase out of my yard.  Lot's of playing with Blue in my yard.

Do you notice a pattern here...I haven't gotten one walk in quite a few days & I'm on official protest.

K9 Kamp Week 2 - Play With Your Balls

This weeks challenge for K9 Kamp, the Play With Your Balls challenge, was an easy one for Oskar & I.  Oskar's favorite toy is Blue, and he prefers playing chase instead playing fetch. 

This week I just let him lead me around the yard a little more than usual.  We do this at least once a day.  It's a great way to get me off of my rear-end, with the added bonus of making a little schnauzer very happy.

Extra points for running & yelling at the photographer simultaneously.

K9 Kamp Week 1 Walk it Off

Oskar & I are proud to be participating in Koly & Kelly's K9 Kamp and have successfully completed week 1, Walk it Off....kind of....

We did the challenge which was to go for a walk with our dogs for 60 minutes this week and try to keep a brisk pace to challenge ourselves.  We broke it down into 2, 30 minute walks and made sure to take the route with the big uphill, instead of the easier flat route.

Last night I had my husband come along on the second walk and take lots of nice pictures of Oskar & I doing our walking uphill.  I reviewed the pictures in the camera while we walked to make sure I had the photo's I wanted.  I noticed it said demo on the camera screen but didn't pay any attention to that.

Well what demo means is that there's no freakin' memory card in the camera!  In my defense it's a digital SLR camera that I inhereted from my son and am not that familiar with yet.  It doesn't have any internal memory, doh!

But back to our pictureless the challenge.  I decided to take Oskar on his 6 foot leash instead of his really long retractable leash so that I could keep him moving instead of meandering and stopping to sniff every pee-mail out there.  He wasn't happy with my decision, but he eventually fell into a nice quick pace with me.

Honestly the hill took it out of me, I'm really out of shape!  I could feel it in my calves, my thighs & my knees.  I'll have to keep an eye on my knees, I've inherited bad ones from my mom's side of the family and as I get older I'm starting to feel it.

The good news is the more I move around during K9 Kamp, the better it will be for my knees and everything else!

Why We Need K9 Kamp

We need K9 Kamp because one of use can't fit into her capri's from last year.

We need K9 Kamp because even someone's shoes are starting to get to small for her.  (Does that even happen?)

We need K9 Kamp because working out with friends, even if it's virtually, is more fun than working out alone.

We need K9 Kamp to feel better & look great, well I do, Oskar says he already looks great!

K9 Kamp Wrap-Up

Well this is the end of Koly & Kelly's K9 Kamp.  We didn't post about it too much cause Pam got sick and couldn't complete some of the challenges.

While we may not have succeeded in some of the challenges, we did learn how much we loved getting outdoors more and playing or going for a walk.  It really helped us wear Oskar out & the time spent together and not just on the computer all day was good for both of us.

Just before writing this post we took one last official K9 Kamp walk & here's some of what we saw.

The neighborhood walks always start with a sniff of these rocks to catch me up with all the latest gossip.

Of course Oskar had to leave an update of his own.

This little guy is blurry from jumping up and down.  He was excited to see us.

And this scarlet bush is starting to show it's true colors.

K9 Kamp encouraged us to get out more & look around us.  Enjoy the view, ya know?

Koly & Kelly's K9 Kamp

We are about to get up out of our chair & start movin!

We're taking part in Koly & Kelly's K9 Kamp.  From September 8th to October 13th we will be doing weekly fitness challenges designed to get us all up off of the couch & moving with our pets.

Since I've been in the hospital so much these past 2 years, I've lost weight, but I haven't been physically active.  I've gotten used to not doing much, so I'm looking forward to working with Oskar each week on a fun new challenge.
